Travmaga

App name Travmaga
Developer DIVA SAS
Category/Niche Transgender and crossdressers
Review period started 9 December 2017
Review period ended 25 January 2018

Travmaga is dating app for people who are transgender, crossdressers, and those who are interested in dating them. It is developed by DIVA SAS, the same company that develops the Swapy Club app. Unlike that app, however, this one appears to work. Sort of.

Travmaga has been downloaded over 10,000 times, and while that’s not a huge number, it’s good enough that there are other people in my area. I was able to upload a profile photo and setup a profile. The app doesn’t ask for much information when setting up profiles, which is good and bad. It’s good in that it makes it simpler to setup a profile, but it’s also bad because that means you only see limited information when looking at the profiles of others.

In my profile, I setup that I wanted to find transgender women, but whenever I went into the app it always showed me “All”, which means it showed me cisgender men and transgender women. Luckily, the developers made it easy to switch between looking at men, transgender women, and all. Still, if I set a preference in my profile, the app should only show me people who fit those criteria.

As mentioned earlier, there are people who use the app who appear to be in my city. I was able to send messages to them, but I couldn’t tell if they’d received them. To make it worse, for the past couple of weeks, every time I tried to use Travamaga, it gives me an error saying “Internet connection is lost”. At first, I thought it might be an isolated issue, but since it has continued, it doesn’t bode well for the app or it usefulness. Because I can’t get into the app, I can’t get all of the details for the tables below. However, there’s enough information to make a decision on the app’s usefulness.

The app is more or less useless and you would be better off trying something else instead.

Taboo

App name Taboo
Developer New Technologies, LLC
Category/Niche People nearby
Review period started 7 December 2017
Review period ended 18 January 2018

The Taboo app starts with the same premise as pretty much all dating apps; find people to date in your area of the world. Where it fails for me is that there are only a few people in my area, but I can’t tell when they last used the app. While I’ve sent smiles and messages, I’ve heard nothing back from them. It could be that they’re not interested, but given the number of installations, I suspect that they downloaded the app, saw there weren’t many user in the area, then gave up on the app.

If you want to go on dates with people, it makes sense to use an app with lots of users. However, you’ll never know how many people are in your area unless you download the app and install it. If there are only a few users, it’s easy to quit because there are lots of free dating apps out there.

Aside from the lack of people in my area, Taboo does have one or two interesting features. When I open the app, the upper part of the page shows a map of my area and the lower part of the page shows a list of women that the app thinks I might like. Presumably, if there were more users in my area, the map would show a bunch of dots to represent them. Alas, the map is empty aside from the sole blue dot representing me. Perhaps just as badly, the women it think I might like are all in other parts of the country.

The app is nice in that it shows you how many kilometers away a person is (there’s no way to change this to miles), but it’s sort of sad and aggravating that most of the women it shows me are hundreds of miles away.

Another significant problem with the app is that you have to be a VIP member in order to reply to messages or view photos that have been sent to you. Since there aren’t any people near me, there’s no incentive to become a VIP member. The developer is Russian and the company is based in Russia, so I’m guessing there are lots of users in Russia. Requiring VIP memberships might make sense if there are lots of people in an area (like Russia) who are using the app. In areas where few people are using the app (such as the US Midwest), it makes sense to offer those all sorts of benefits to attract new users in those areas and to keep the current users. I think the developer has set the VIP requirement for all users, all over the world, without considering that it will hurt their growth in new regions.

I think this app is potentially worthwhile, but only if the developers drop the VIP requirement for sending messages. This would hopefully attract more users, at least in my area, if the VIP membership weren’t required to send messages. For now though, the app isn’t worth the bother.

More coming soon

After the hectic schedule of holiday commitments, it’s time to do some more dating app reviews, and I have three or four that are ripe to be reviewed. Unlike the previous apps where there were no people near me and no way to send messages to other users, these soon to be reviewed apps offer at least one of these criteria.

The reviews will start later today, then follow one each day for the next few days.

Swapy Club

App name Swapy Club
Developer DIVA SAS
Category/Niche Swingers
Review period started 15 December 2017
Review period ended 20 December 2017

Swapy Club is a dating app for swingers, but since it has only been downloaded by less than a thousand people (on Android), I didn’t expect much from it. However, I always hope to be surprised when evaluating apps, so I downloaded it to see what was what.

This app uses the same software as another app I’m evaluating, and on further investigation I found the apps were developed by the same company, France based Diva SAS. While the review of the other app will be published in early January, Swapy Club is so flawed and unusable that it warranted ending the evaluation and giving a review ahead of time.

First of all, after creating a profile, I tried uploading a profile photo, but something seems to go wrong in the process. When I finally got to my profile page, it only showed a generic “photo unavailable” style icon rather than the photo I uploaded. Strange, I thought. It was easy to set my age and enter something in the About Me section, but I had to tell it my location, despite it being allowed to know my device’s location. With the profile as setup as it can be, it was time to look at the profiles of other people.

Oops. There is no one around me. Well, considering the number of downloads, it isn’t surprising. Some apps end up showing profiles of users on the other side of the world because they don’t have enough people in a person’s area. This app seems to do the opposite. When they say “meet swingers nearby” they really do mean “nearby”. If there are no swingers in your area, then they won’t show you any profiles. Since there are no other users of this app near me, I didn’t see any profiles. None. Nada. Nil.

I could have left it at that and kept using the app in anticipation of future users, but the app has some serious flaws aside from the lack of users. When creating the profile, it asks if I want to look for men, women, or couples. But if I want to change this in the already created profile, it offers men, shemale, or couple (sic). Aside from the derogatory nomenclature, you think they would be able to keep these things straight.

The app’s page in the Google Play Store mentions being able to buy a monthly subscription, but the app itself doesn’t offer the opportunity to purchase anything. However, the app’s page also mentioned using the iTunes Account to pay for the purchase, so they probably just copy-and-pasted the text from the iOS version of the app without editing it for the Google Play Store.

The developers of this app should do more testing on the Android platform, using actual smartphone and tablets to test the app. The idea behind the app is good, but its implementation is terrible. Maybe I’ll test it again in a year or so to see if they managed to improve it.

Dating for Disabled Singles app

App name Dating for Disabled Singles
Developer swissglobaldistribution

It seems like this app is intended to be the app version of the Dating For Disabled Singles website. However, when I open the app, there is a notice that reads “This app has been disabled for violation of out Terms of Service.”

I’m not sure whose terms of service were violated. The app still has a menu which shows it was built using some sort of framework that turns websites into apps, so perhaps the company that made the framework had a problem with the company that made this app. The DatingForDisabledSingles.com website is still active and appears to be working normally.

Looking in the Google Play Store, it looks like swissglobaldistribution has several dating apps available for download. I haven’t checked them yet, so I don’t know if they suffer the same fate as this one.

This website is mainly about reviewing dating apps, and while many of those apps have websites, I don’t intend on reviewing dating websites yet. It’s a possibility in the future, but for now there are plenty of apps that need to be reviewed.

This dating app review could be a word-for-word copy of the review done for Threesome Dating. The apps are so similar, I suspect one may be a copy of the other.

Regardless, both apps are worthless. They both direct the user to download the BiCupid app or go to the BiCupid website.

BiCupid should take action against these apps, lest they risk damage to their brand. If you want to use BiCupid, you can use it without installing this app.

This app is worthless and isn’t worth downloading and installing.

This app is in the same class as the BiThreesome app. Not because it tries to be an app for threesomes, but because it is utterly worthless.

Although it seems impossible to be even more worthless than the BiThreesome app, at least that point to five other apps to use. This one only redirects the user to the BiCupid webpage.

I have nothing against BiCupid, since I’m currently evaluating their app, but it seems odd that there are a few apps that seem to have no other purpose than to direct users to their website. I’m not accusing BiCupid of doing anything nefarious, but they should take action against apps like these since they have the potential of damaging the BiCupid brand.

As far as the Threesome Dating app is concerned, it’s not worth the effort of downloading and installing.

A Transsexual Date

App name A Transsexual Date
Developer LoveDate AB
Category/Niche Transsexuals, Transgender, Transvestites, Crossdressers, Males
Review period started 5 December 2017

A Transsexual Date is dating app and website setup by a Swedish company, LoveDate AB. The app and website occupy the niche of transsexuals, transgender people, transvestites, and the men who are interested in dating them (Sorry, cisgender ladies).

The app and website were created using readily-available software which was customized for this company’s use. Yet because of this, they feel very ordinary, and somewhat boring. The features they have are found in many other apps and websites, so they have a hard time trying to set themselves apart in the somewhat crowded niche.

From my point of view, the only way they’ve distinguished themselves is in their membership levels. The memberships are available as Prince level or King level, with only some minor distinctions between the two. The names of the levels earned a smirk, if only because they’re somewhat clever, though whether I remember them in a month or two is doubtful.

Despite the names of the membership levels, it’s virtually impossible to do anything in A Transsexual Date without buying a membership. The fees for the membership are listed below. I declined to purchase a membership because there are no people near me, and it’s not worth buying a membership just to send message to people who live on another continent.

The niche of dating apps/websites for trans* and the people who want to date them is already sort of crowded, so I wonder if LoveDate AB did much research before setting up A Transsexual Date. There are other apps and websites (which I’ll review in the coming months) that don’t charge for sending messages, so they would seem to be a better choice than this app and website.

If A Transsexual Date allowed people to send and receive messages without buying memberships, I think it would do very well, but I think requiring messages will limit their growth.

This is probably the quickest I’ve gone from installing an app, to evaluating, to uninstalling and reviewing. Basically put, this app is worthless.

After tapping the icon to open the app, we are shown a screen that merely points out other apps you might want to use if your were bisexual and/or seeking a threesome.

This app doesn’t let you sign up for anything of its own. There is no profile to fill out, and no photos to upload. It’s a waste of screen space and a waste of bandwidth.

Don’t bother with it.

The only reason it’s getting a review is that it shows up in the Google Play Store when looking for dating apps.
